Happy Teachers' Day India


  Teachers' Day in India is celebrated on September 5th to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was a renowned scholar, recipient of Bharat Ratna, first Vice- President and second President of independent India. He was born on 5 September 1888. In his honor Teachers Day has been celebrated from the 5th of September 1962 onwards.

Gandhi Jayanti


Gandhi Jayanti is observed on 2 October every year. Gandhi Jayanti 2020 is a national holiday in India as the day is to honour the birthday of the Father of the nation. India celebrates the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi this year. Gandhi Jayanti is observed in all the States and Union Territories (UT) of India as one of the three officials declared National Holidays of India. On 15th June 2007, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) announced that 2nd October will be observed as the International Day of Non-Violence. Gandhi was a preacher of non-violence. Gandhi is a symbol of peace and truth.

Indigenous Peoples Day


Indigenous peoples first proposed the day during a 1977 United Nations conference on discrimination against them. But it wasn't until 1989 that South Dakota became the first state to switch Columbus Day to Native Americans' Day, celebrating it for the first time in 1990. Indigenous PeoplesDay honors the past, present, and futures of Native peoples throughout the US. The holiday recognizes the legacy and impact of colonialism on Native communities, and it also celebrates the cultures, contributions, and resilience of contemporary Native peoples.  

Happy Durga Puja


As per Hindu scriptures, the festival marks the victory of goddess Durga in her battle against the shape-shifting asura, Mahishasura. Thus, the festival epitomises the victory of good over evil, though it is also in part a harvest festival celebrating the goddess as the motherly power behind all of life and creation. Durga puja coincides with Navaratri and Dussehra celebrations observed by other traditions of Hinduism, in which the Ram lila dance-drama is enacted, celebrating the victory of Rama against Ravana, and effigies of Ravana are burnt.

Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war or peace — dead or alive — although it's largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices. It was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I.

  Children's Day is celebrated across India to increase awareness of the right care and education of children. It is celebrated on 14 November every year as a tribute to India's First Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Fondly known as Chacha Nehru among children. He advocated for children to have fulfilled education. Nehru considered children as real strength of a nation and foundation of society.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day was first observed in 1986 and wasn't celebrated in every US State until 2000. The Congressional Black Caucus collected six million signatures to help it become afederal holiday. King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in Federal and State Law.

International Day of yoga 2021


  The International Day of yoga is celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India.The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.  


Happy Doctors Day 


National DoctorsDay is a day celebrated to recognize the contributions of physicians to individual lives and communities. The date varies from nation to nation and is  held every year on March 30th in the United States. It is a day to celebrate the contribution of physicians who serve the country by caring for its' citizens. The first Doctor's Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia.  Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians. Celebrated  July 1, in India, to mark the birth and honor the contributions of renowned physician and former West Bengal chief minister Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy.

July 4th has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson.

RATHA YATRA, the Festival of Chariot: Chariots of Shri Jagannath is celebrated every year at Puri, the temple town in Odisha, on the second (dwitiya) day of shukla pakhya (waxing cycle of moon) of Āshādha Māsa (3rd month of Odia calendar).

  Id-Ul-Zuha or Eid al-Adha or Bakr-Id is an important festival for the Islamic community around the world. Id-Ul-Zuha lasts for three days and commemorates Ibrahim's (Abraham) willingness to obey God by sacrificing his son. According to the holy Quran, Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son when a voice from heaven stopped him and allowed him to make something else as a 'great sacrifice'. In the Old Testament, it is a goat that is sacrificed instead of the son.
 

  Ganesh Puja

  Ganesh Puja or Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi is an important and popular Hindu festival which is celebrated in India by devout Hindus and by the expatriate community of Hindus in foreign countries. This festival marks the arrival of Lord Ganesha to earth from his abode in Kailash Parvat along with his mother Goddess Parvati.

Happy Durga Puja

Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsava, is an annual Hindu festival celebrated with pomp and gusto in the Indian Subcontinent where devotees revere and pay homage to the Hindu goddess, Durga. It is particularly popular and traditionally celebrated in the eastern Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, Odisha,  Bihar, Tripura.

Makar Sankranti
Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan or Maghi or simply Sankranti, also known in Bangladesh and West Bengal as Poush Sankranti, and in Nepal as Maghe Sankranti, sam(n)kranti here means ‘transfer’, this day is considered as the transition day of Sun into the Capricorn. Now the sun moves northwards in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to the deity Surya (sun), many native festivals are organised all over India

Happy Saraswati Puja

Vasant Panchami, also called Sarasvati Puja in honor of the goddess Saraswati, is a festival that marks the preparation for the arrival of spring. The festival is celebrated by people in the Indian subcontinent in various ways depending on the region. Vasant Panchami also marks the start of preparation for Holika and Holi, which take place forty days later. The Vasant Utsava (festival) on Panchami is celebrated forty days before spring, because any season's transition period is 40 days, and after that, the season comes into full bloom.

  Good Friday

is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday, and Black Friday.   

 International Labor Day 

celebrates the working classes.
The day to celebrate members of the working classes was chosen in 1889 by the Marxist International Socialist Congress. The date May 1st was significant in that it commemorated the Haymarket riot -- the aftermath of bombing at a labor strike in Chicago in 1886. International Labor Day is celebrated in Australia, Canada, India, Italy, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Raja Sankranti 2022

The first day of the festival is Pahili Raja. The second day is Raja Sankranti (proper Raja) or Mithuna Sankranti and the third day is Basi Raja (past Raja).

During the three days, women are given a break from household work and time to play indoor games. No farming takes place and everyone abstains from walking barefoot on the earth. This is to prepare the earth for the coming rain.

Unmarried girls will dress in new clothes or wear traditional Saree and Alata (red dye) on their feet.

Indoor and outdoor games are a popular pursuit during Raja. Girls will play on swings tied on tree branches while singing folk songs. There are various types of swings, each with a name such as 'Ram Doli', 'Charki Doli', 'Pata Doli' and 'Dandi Doli'.

On the final and fourth day, Vasumati Snana, women bathe the grinding stone as a symbol of Bhumi, Hindu goddess of the earth, with turmeric paste and adore with flowers. All types of seasonal fruits are offered to mother Bhumi.

The day before the festival is called Sajabaja or preparatory day during which the house, kitchen including the grinding stones are cleaned and spices are ground for three days.

  Juneteenth 

Juneteenth -- also known as Juneteenth Independence Day, Freedom Day and Emancipation Day -- commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

  Ratha Yatra is a Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath held at Shri Kshetra Puri Dham in the state of Odisha, India. It is the oldest Ratha Yatra, whose descriptions can be found in Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, and Skanda Purana and Kapila Samhita

Eid al-Adha is the second and the bigger of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam. It honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah's command.   

MUHARRAM

According to the Islamic Calendar, Muharram is the beginning of a new year and the first month of the Islamic Year. It is one of the most auspicious months and has a great significance among Muslims. Muharram 2022 started in India on 31 July 2022 (Sunday).

During the month of Muharram, the battle of Karbala took place in which Hazrat Imam Hussain (grandson of Hazrat Muhammad SAW) was mercilessly martyred (10th Muharram) by the Umayyad Caliph Yazid I. This is the reason Muharram is observed with grief, mourning, and sadness among Muslims around the world.

  HAPPY RAKSHA BANDHAN 

 Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi) 2022. Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival celebrating the relationship between brothers and sisters. This year, Rakhi will be celebrated on 12th August.  

  The occasion is meant to celebrate any type of brother-sister relationship between men and women who may not be biologically related. On this day, a sister ties a rakhi around the wrist of her brother in order to pray for his prosperity, health and well-being.

 

  HAPPY  Krishna Janmashtami    
Krishna Janmashtami, also known simply as Janmashtami or Gokulashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. It is observed according to the Hindu Lunisolar Calendar, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in Shraavana or Bhadrapad (depending on whether the calendar chooses the new moon or full moon day as the last day of the month), which overlaps with August or September of the Gregorian calendar.

It is an important festival, particularly in the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism and It is celebrated particularly in Mathura and Vrindavan, along with major Vaishnava and non-sectarian communities found in Manipur, Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and many other states of India.
